~~FLASHBACK FRIDAY~~

by Tinner in , , , ,

This week we are flashing it back- to Fall 2016 (and the 80's!) during my semester abroad in Florence, Italy. Overalls and chokers seem to be one of the biggest 'throwback' trends of today's millennial fashion and we are excited to share with you how we prefer to pair them!

Like chokers, overalls are a come back item that have slightly evolved to include a more modern, chic twist. Our friend Emma Scott, pictured below (and probably one of the most photographed Tinner friends), never seizes to amaze us with her ability to stay ahead of trends by finding neat, hole-in-the-wall shops and styling their unique products with simple accessories. (Simplicity is key with overalls).

During our first touristy adventure in our new home in Florence, Emma (or Scoo as we call her) rocked these overalls with a comfortable Gap T-shirt and white, Dolce Vita Sneakers. Her simple accessories included, Rayban Sunglasses, ASHA Zodiac Ring, Michael Kors Watch, and a Leather Backpack

**We only got a couple confused looks from the Italians-- and turns out there is no direct translation for "American Fashion Blog," so we just went with it...

Scoo stumbled across these overalls at a pop-up in NYC called The Vintage Twin, who's motto is "Reworked Hunted Treasure. One of Each Item." At the pop-up, which gives 10% of their total company proceeds to charity,  Emma had these stressed and cut perfectly to fit her body. Offering a variety of custom vintage items at affordable prices,  the founders Morgan and Samantha Elias strive to provide unique items that allow customers to wear and express their individuality. Their mission is "hunting for treasures among the millions of quality goods that are given up each year, reworking some to make them on-trend and salvaging fabric and parts from others to create new designs."

Check out www.thevintagetwin.com to shop online or visit their pop-up going on now until July 7th on 20 Spring Street and 199 Lafayette in NYC.

Black & White

by Tinner in , ,

As I've gotten older, I've found that I buy a lot more neutrals and fewer patterns. Although this makes all my clothes look very similar, I prefer having versatility over having to re-wear identifiable patterns over and over again.

That being said, I try to spend money on neutrals that are timeless and good quality. All of the items pictured above are from this summer. The black pants are a recent Club Monaco purchase and I've already lost track of how many times I've worn them. Though other companies (like Zara) make similar pairs, I wanted to get something that would also be nice enough for work. I paired the pants with a $30 Old Navy cotton shirt that is PERFECT for a hot summer day and these new J.Crew animal print slip-on sneakers.

A tip that someone once told me about finding the right pair of lose pants that fits your body best is to look for ones that scrunch at the bottom. Whether they actually scrunch or just get tighter is your preference but something that comes together at the bottom will give your legs more shape. PLUS, if you wear them with heels they elongate your legs even more!

This outfit was incredibly easy to throw together because everything was neutral. I added the shoes to give it an extra pop, as neutral outfits usually look best with a little extra something. Whether thats a necklace, ring, shoes or bag is up to you.

They no longer sell this white top but this quilted Old Navy top is a perfect transition piece for the fall and only $25!

Linner's Abroad Essentials

As we talked about in 'Neutral Necessities,' when shopping and packing for abroad, it is very important to stick to neutrals and think about how many different ways you could wear a certain item. While having a white skirt or a chic black jacket is critical for creating a variety of outfits, sometimes the most important items to match are the everyday accessories that make a statement while still staying simple. You don't want to bring bright pink supergas or an impractical sequin clutch; you have to think pragmatically about what you are going to get the most use of and how that item can be the staple to each outfit you put together. This is an important fashion lesson in general, not just for abroad, and is a good way to save money because neutrals are great and LESS IS MORE, people! :)

Skirtin' Around

A super hot trend right now is a skirt and matching crop top set.  BCBG Max Azria has an amazing selection of these sets for the summer, most of which are 40% off! After multiple trips to BCBG, drooling over the chic cropped jackets, and  sets, Lindsay finally went for the purchase. This high wasited blue and white patterned skirt shares a matching top that is also very flattering.

She decided in order to make the most of the purchase, the skirt and shirt need to be worn separately when possible. Yesterday, for work, she paired the skirt with a simple, blush Madewell blouse. She added her new H&M heels (that were less than $30), her stylish Karen Walker sunglasses, and a bunch of her favorite jewelry from Neely by NVB. Also from Neely by NVB is the Brown Evie bag seen here, that is a perfect size for an everyday work bag.

What also makes this bag so special is that the colors of the bag represent each school that Neely's team visits on their college tours. While Lindsay obviously loves the Washington and Lee Generals Blue and White, she decided the Brown University's colors were more neutral and would work well with any outfit, as it does here.

Item of the Week: Clare V. Clutch

by Tinner in

I came across this Clare V. Clutch the other day on Revolve and instantly knew it was a must for the blog. While some people prefer to be more subtle with their accessories, others (like me) prefer to wear more neutral clothing matched with something that pops. Whether its jewelry, a bag, shoes or a cute pair of sunglasses, find the balance that makes you most comfortable.

This Margot Flat Clutch in electric blue is perfect for the summer as it is a color that truly never goes out of style (or season). Try pairing it with a white shift dress or a soft gray ensemble to see the best outfits come to life.

Spring Style

As the weather slowly gets warmer, it can be tricky picking the right outfit when it's still cold in the morning. A favorite trend right now is wearing a big sweater over a dress or romper. Recently, Emma and I "studied" on the porch of our sorority house after classes, and I was obsessed with her outfit. I decided to capture her ensemble that day to share with you all.

This look is exactly how to prepare for a chilly morning that turns into a beautiful day. This light pink J.Crew sweater works perfectly as a layering piece over this blue and white polka-dot romper. Paired with simple gold J.Crew bangles, a watch purchased through Neely by V.N.B., white Supergas, and a casual bun, this look combines chic with comfortable to make for the best outfit when transitioning into spring. We are also huge fans of these edgy sunglasses by Spitfire that are great for adding a little pop to a simple outfit.

Visit websites and stores like Zara, J.Crew, and Madewell to find other great rompers like this and also an awesome variety of pull over sweaters that are perfect as a layering piece.

Neely by VNB

by Tinner in ,

This past weekend, Washington and Lee graduate, Neely Burch, debuted Neely by VNB,"a traveling boutique catering to fashion conscious women at rural and suburban colleges" right here on the Washington and Lee campus. Neely made her first stop on their fashion road trip, during which they'll visit UVA, Bucknell, Princeton, Trinity, and a number of other schools along the east coast, selling a variety of shoes, jewelry, and accessories, that Neely and her associates have hand-selected themselves.

Selling online and running out of a beautifully customized airstream, called NEELmobile, Neely and her employees sell a selection of well-known companies such as Tory Burch, Joie, Superga and Chan Luu.  Also on the NEELmobile, will be what I like to call "hidden gem" brands that you wouldn't necessarily see in your typical shopping routine. These brands include Le Spec sunglasses and TAI jewelry.

I bought the Le Spec's pictured above for an affordable price of $69.00 and was pleasantly surprised by the amazing quality!! I also purchased the  Mint and Rose espadrilles (that look just like the Chanel ones) for only $90.00 and I'm OBSESSED, to say the least.

My favorite part of Neely's company, and what I think is one of the many things that make her company objective unique, is the Evie bag. This bag (pictured above) is Neely's first 'Neely by VNB' brand item. The colors are customized to each of the schools they visit (the one above features Generals colors - W&L - of course). A practical size and neutral base color, this bag is perfect as a "backpack" for class or just as an everyday purse.

Not only is Neely by VNB bringing an overwhelming selection of must-have shoes and accessories right to your door-step, I think she is creating something no one has ever done before. It's almost like a fashion blog that's come to life or your Pinterest wish list board parked in your backyard. I think that's why I feel so strongly about Neely's company; she has a lot of the same objectives and goals that we have here at Tinner. We want to introduce brands and trends that we love, like Neely and her employees do when choosing companies and merchandise, while simultaneously offer a enough variety for our viewers to create and define their own personal style. Another important fascet of Neely's company that is similar to what we do at Tinner, is offering a mix of inexpensive and expensive options to let girls our age know, style can not only be easy and fun, but also affordable.

Like the Neely by VNB Facebook page and visit her website, which will be launched soon, to learn more about Neely and her company! But most importantly, look out for Neely on your college campus or a college campus near you. TRUST ME, you don't want to miss this...

Simple Essentials

by Tinner in , ,

Buying work clothes and clothes to go out in are often times very different and not appropriate for the other. Thus, expanding your wardrobe can be difficult as its hard to pick and chose between buying more for one. The outfit, pictured above, can be mixed and matched with other pieces to fit both because it uses items that are simple and understated.

A structured black skirt is a staple that you should have in your closet. It can be worn in all seasons (with tights in the winter) and dressed both up and down.

This Zara crop top was initially bought as a going out shirt. Though paired with this skirt, it becomes effortlessly appropriate for work (if you are working for a more low key company - such as advertising or fashion). Wear the top with a tighter skirt when going out at night and capitalize on its versatility.

These Tory Burch 'Reggie Sandals' are a very easy and comfortable shoe. The thick heel dresses the outfit up while keeping it more casual than pumps. They were our favorite work shoes this summer!
