The (Sort of) Boyfriend Jeans

by Tinner in , ,

With every new season, old trends return and current trends evolve. As we head into Fall, distressed denim seems to be at the forefront of both old and new. I have always been a fan of a simple skinny jean or jegging and have been reluctant to try different shapes and styles with the concern they wouldn't be flattering for my body (i.e. boyfriend jeans). Nevertheless, always fun to try trends that bring you out of your comfort zone a little bite. In an attempt to find boyfriend jeans that I could wear while traveling abroad, I stumbled across these baggy jeans that aren't quite boyfriend but have the same effect. Because they still have some shape, they aren't as unflattering as boyfriend jeans can sometimes be. And though the rips are somewhat aggressive, you can wear them as a fun beach look, chic European look, or even a little more conservative look with a simple, oversized button down (as pictured).

I am usually a huge fan of color and simple gold jewelry, as I like and feel most comfortable in it. This look, however, was one of my favorites from the summer and something completely out of my usual repertoire. The big staple necklace and cuff were really fun and I used the heels to bring it all together. I also really thought that my Warby Parker glasses were a fun addition and constantly try to remind myself that glasses can also be used to accessorize.

As I head into my second week studying abroad in Italy, I made another unconventional purchase; ripped, light wash, overalls. Stay tuned to see how I style them and combine my desire to be ~European chic~ with my personal style!

Black & White

by Tinner in , ,

As I've gotten older, I've found that I buy a lot more neutrals and fewer patterns. Although this makes all my clothes look very similar, I prefer having versatility over having to re-wear identifiable patterns over and over again.

That being said, I try to spend money on neutrals that are timeless and good quality. All of the items pictured above are from this summer. The black pants are a recent Club Monaco purchase and I've already lost track of how many times I've worn them. Though other companies (like Zara) make similar pairs, I wanted to get something that would also be nice enough for work. I paired the pants with a $30 Old Navy cotton shirt that is PERFECT for a hot summer day and these new J.Crew animal print slip-on sneakers.

A tip that someone once told me about finding the right pair of lose pants that fits your body best is to look for ones that scrunch at the bottom. Whether they actually scrunch or just get tighter is your preference but something that comes together at the bottom will give your legs more shape. PLUS, if you wear them with heels they elongate your legs even more!

This outfit was incredibly easy to throw together because everything was neutral. I added the shoes to give it an extra pop, as neutral outfits usually look best with a little extra something. Whether thats a necklace, ring, shoes or bag is up to you.

They no longer sell this white top but this quilted Old Navy top is a perfect transition piece for the fall and only $25!

As the weather gets warmer and we are confronted with the inevitable reality of facing our white jeans, it's always exciting to look into different styles that you'll be excited about wearing throughout the spring and summer. On our spring break a couple weeks ago, we couldn't avoid taking away from some beach time to shop at the amazing stores in Palm Beach (unfortunately just sticking to just window shopping on Worth Avenue,) and Izzy found these amazing AG white jeans on sale at Calypso. I know for me, when I buy white jeans, comfort is the first thing I look for and these ones are not only flattering and look amazing, but they're soft material makes them as comfortable as a pair of leggings. AG has an incredible selection of white jeans that makes it THE place to start when searching for the perfect pair for you.

One of the many things that Tay and I have learned since we started Tinner over a year ago is the different ways to alter and add to our own personal styles based on the unique fashion choices of our friends and peers. Izzy has somewhat of a preppier style than our usual style, often rocking  a cute button down and sweater or putting together other stylish but preppy items that I would never initially think of but that I'm obsessed with.

Here, Izzy rocks an "oversized" (normal sized on the rest of us,) J. Crew pullover collared shirt with her new AGs and her favorite Stubbs & Wootton flats. Paired with the crowd favorite Illesteva sunny Gs, simply gold jewelry, and pearls, this look is perfect for a beach bonfire or for class as we finally transition into spring here in Virginia.

Stay tuned for a post this week with our top ten favorite sunglasses right now, including these bold Illestevas, all at affordable prices and unique styles that are perfect for the upcoming warm weather!

Sunny Daze

One of the many reasons going to school in Virginia is so nice is the fact that we can sport our favorite sunny gs  all year long. These Le Spec sunglasses, purchased at the Neely Burch sale, are the kind of glasses that make a statement. They need to be worn with simple pieces so the outfit does not become overwhelming. Emma did just that, pairing them with a simple pair of Rag&Bone jeans and Splendid t-shirt, and adding this fun, bright Roberta Freymann beads and Old Navy scarf to pull it all together.

My favorite part of this outfit, however, is the green hooded jacket. As it gets a little bit colder down South, a light jacket is the perfect accessory to pull an outfit together but also to stay warm. This jacket is practical, as it's not too heavy and enough to stay warm during this in between weather. Army green jackets are trending right now so check out Shopbop and Revolve to find the one that's perfect for you and your school weather!

Transition to Fall

by Tinner in , ,

As we move into Fall, take advantage of some of the end-of-the-summer sales. These Clover Canyon pants are currently at a huge discount - as well as most of CC's collection (bathing suits, dresses, crop tops and skirts). Pair them with an oversized sweater and black heels or sneakers, depending on the look you're going for.

These silky pants have been a must-have item this year and will continue to be through the fall. They're incredibly easy to wear and not to mention extremely comfortable!

Just A Lil' More White

by Tinner in , ,

Obviously the "no-white after labor day" is generally a good rule to abide by but with some irresistible white items, it has to be ignored. These 7 jeans are an absolute favorite of ours and can be worn through September as the red leather tuxedo stripe opens the chance to bring in Fall colors.

We also love these shoes Dolce Vita sandals that can continue to be worn, especially if you live somewhere warm! Throw a white sweater, like this pullover from Vince, over a cute shirt, like this one from Love Stitch, to make a cozy but cute outfit -- perfect for a chilly night!

Shopping at the end of the summer is always hard because the summer sales are so tempting but you feel guilty buying your summer faves when you can't wear them in the Fall.  I always try to find the summer items that I can wear all fall, especially because when I buy something new, I would wear it for weeks if I could. I've had my eye on all of these affordable items as I start getting ready to get back to Virginia. Check 'em out and visit the new page on two of our favorite sites, shop bop.com and revolveclothing.com, to do your back to school shopping!

Mix & Match

by Tinner in ,

As fall approaches, especially with the weather being unusually cold for August, mixing summer and fall clothes is essential to a smooth transition. However, knowing what to mix can be difficult -- One of our favorite looks this Summer has been pairing a flannel with white jeans. Try wearing distressed white denim for a more casual look or add jewelry to spruce it up!
